Change programme drives game-changing growth for a global design, engineering & project management consultancy

Spitfire developed a significant change programme for one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies, navigating a challenging business landscape.

Our client recognised that it needed to improve business performance and reduce signalling project costs to remain competitive in a challenging environment.

In phase 1, Spitfire engaged with the Signalling team and together undertook a full analysis to understand the current state to identify all issues affecting the business. Issues were prioritised and a transformation road map was produced.

In phase 2, Spitfire supported and advised the Change Programme that would create the maximum positive impact in the shortest possible time with the minimum level of investment.

Spitfire’s Change Programme Approach

Fundamental to Spitfire Consultancy’s approach was to align the phase 2 support to the principles of Kotter’s 8 step change model to assure success. From the initial ‘Case for Change’, through the drafting of a Road Map and the communication of the Vision, Spitfire kept the client team energised, focussed, and supported all the way to the handover phase. The team used a Business Model Canvas to help the client envisage and develop their revised Operational Framework to wedge in the ‘new normal’.

Key Deliverables of the Change Programme

Overall, Spitfire’s Change Programme resulted in more than 70 process and toolset improvements, the implementation of a new Safety Assurance Framework and a 13.5% overall margin improvement forecast.

The forecasted benefit of a 30:1 ROI was more than validated by the initial two quarters of 2020’s financial results.

The Engineering Director and client sponsor said,

“This was a herculean task, completed in less than 12 months, that has really changed the trajectory of our business. Spitfire’s deliverables were clear and agreed. Their application of the principles of the Kotter Change Model provided a framework that made the changes stick. Spitfire completed their project with a model project closeout that included a really good handover document and curation of the significant collateral delivered by Signalling Delivery Transformation.”
